The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is one of India’s most prestigious institutes for fashion education and design. It was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, with the aim of developing professionals for the fashion and apparel industry. Over the years, NIFT has become a global center for design, management, and technology education related to fashion.
NIFT started with its main campus in New Delhi and now has 18 campuses across India, including those in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Gandhinagar. It provides a creative learning environment where students are encouraged to explore ideas, design concepts, and innovative solutions for the modern fashion world.
The institute combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to prepare students for the global fashion and lifestyle industry. NIFT also promotes Indian textiles and crafts, helping students understand the country’s rich cultural heritage while applying it to modern fashion trends.

Admission to NIFT is through an entrance examination conducted by the institute every year. The selection process usually includes a Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), and Situation Test or Interview (depending on the program). Students are selected based on their performance and merit in these exams.
